The Commission sought to improve its understanding of the long run development of the United Kingdom energy system through the curation of a historical energy dataset.
The Commission asked Dr Roger Fouquet of the London School of Economics to collate relevant historical energy statistics and provide time series data on historical energy consumption, energy prices and carbon dioxide emissions in the UK. The study of historical energy data has the potential to offer many valuable insights of relevance for today’s energy markets and climate policy.
