Financing and funding new infrastructure in an efficient way is one of the questions the Commission is considering as part of its work on the first National Infrastructure Assessment.

To inform its thinking the Commission recently hosted with the London School of Economics Department of Economics a panel discussion on 24 April considering the question: ‘Does the UK needs its own Infrastructure Bank?’

Speaking at this event were Danny Alexander, Vice President at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB); Robert Bartlett, Head of Infrastructure at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group; Tamsyn Barton, Chief Executive of Bond and Kwasi Kwarteng, MP for Spelthorne and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The event was Chaired by Commissioner Professor Sir Tim Besley, Professor of Economics of Political Science and W. Arthur Lewis Professor of Development Economics in the Department of Economics at the LSE.

This discussion was filmed and will be made available to view online shortly.
