Rail Needs Assessment for the Midlands and the North: interim report

A proposed methodology and approach for the Commission's assessment, to inform the government's integrated rail plan.

Tagged: PlaceTransport

In February 2020, the government announced it would be drawing up an integrated rail plan for the North and Midlands, to identify the most effective sequencing of relevant investments and how to integrate HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and other rail investments.

The government’s plan will be informed by an assessment of the rail needs of the Midlands and the North to be undertaken by the Commission.

This interim report – which sets out the methodology the Commission will use to complete its assessment – was published on 15 July. It posed four questions to seek views on the Commission’s proposed approach (the deadline for submissions was 15 August 2020).
